Matt McGowan, Technology Integration Specialist, Paragould School District
Charles Nelson, Classroom Teacher and Data specialist, Greene County Tech School District
As the Common Core Standards are put into practice, many teachers are nervous about how to implement the Standards in their classrooms. Some innovative ways to implement the aims of the Common Core Standards — and to help our students develop the expertise we as teachers want for them in a variety of learning styles — are embedded in the sample iBooks we created with the Common Core Standards in mind. We have developed 5 iBooks that show a variety of questioning techniques to get key ideas across to students without just telling them how to work problems. The iBooks also demonstrate a variety of ways to explain the mathematics that are used in real world applications, making them appropriately challenging for different types of learners. The overall purpose of the set of iBooks is to make teachers more comfortable with and give them a deeper understanding of the Common Core Standards and the use of questioning techniques discussed in the Standards for mathematical practice.
